The Ballad of the Lion and the Dragon
Dear Mother and Father, how are things back home? Is Grandma feeling any better? Things in Archdell have gotten complicated and I felt I could no longer stay. Instead of going home, I’ve decided to travel and see what more the world can show me baking. This journey has taken me into the strange lands beyond Lancaster, where I have already been caught up in a bar fight, arrested, and broken out of prison. While the customs out here seem strange and unpredictable, my former cellmates seem civilized for the most part and have bonded somewhat over the experience. However, I believe at least one is a goat worshiping heretic that wields unholy magic from a vile covenant with her evil master. I will keep my guard up around that one. Additionally, we have been tasked with an assignment in return for our freedom; protecting an orphanage, of all things. While I’m not sure I would be much use, I feel obliged to accept the job. After all, it isn’t too savage, and I doubt I could outrun anyone here. Please don’t worry too much about me, I am being put up in a nice inn and am learning a lot about the outside. I will send more letters when I can.
-With love, Lina
